Welcome to the Pledge 2 Play Initiative!

In collaboration with the Florida Sports Foundation, the Department of Health, and the Surgeon General, we’re excited to invite kids across Florida to take the Pledge 2 Play! We encourage children and families to engage in regular physical activity to enhance their health and wellbeing. Are you ready to Pledge 2 Play?

How It Works:

  1. Take the Pledge: To get started, click the ‘Make the Pledge’ button below to download the activity log.
  2. Download the Activity Log: Once downloaded, print the log (available in PDF format) to track your daily activities over the summer.
  3. Parental Participation: Parents must complete the form and submit their child’s activities. This important step ensures your child receives a special T-shirt at the end of the summer!
  4. Share, Show & Tell: Share your experience and how you fulfilled your #FLPledge2Play.

Play Every Day: Building Active Kids

Children need at least an hour of daily physical activity. Preschoolers shouldn’t be inactive for more than an hour at a time, except when sleeping. Schedule regular family activities to promote an active lifestyle:
  • Playing at the park or playground
  • Playing games such as soccer, kickball, basketball, and tennis
  • Playing games involving running, skipping, hopping, jumping, or marching, suitable for both outdoors and indoors
  • Walking
  • Swimming
  • Riding a tricycle or bicycle
  • Dancing to music
  • Rollerskating or rollerblading
  • Joining in household tasks such as cleaning and yardwork

Physical Health Benefits: Active Kids, Brighter Futures

Active youth exhibit better fitness, stronger muscles, less body fat, and improved mental health, enhancing academic performance. Though chronic diseases are rare in the young, obesity risks are rising. Regular exercise helps mitigate these and improve body composition. For children with disabilities, working with health professionals to customize safe exercises is vital, and maintaining any activity level is crucial to avoid inactivity.
