Results of Floridians at the 2016 Olympic Games
Congratulations to the 19 Florida Olympians who won a total of 24 medals at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The U.S. led the medal count with 112. Below are the updated results of the 40 Florida athletes competing in the Games.
Floridians earned 14 gold medals, eight silver and two bronze medals. Florida swimmers won six gold medals and track and field athletes won four golds. Following is a breakdown of medals won by Florida athletes.

More than 10,500 athletes from 206 nations are participated in 28 sports of the 2016 Olympic Games. The 40 athletes representing Florida is second highest total from the 46 states represented. California led the way with 125.
Highlighting the roster of 40 athletes are five Floridians who have competed in the Sunshine State Games, the state’s Olympic-style Sports Festival for amateur athletes of all ages.
Miami native and gold medalist, Ashleigh Johnson, participated in Sunshine State Games for 10 years as a member of the Riptides Water Polo team. Johnson is the Team USA goalkeeper.
Daytona Beach native Ryan Lochte is now a 12-time Olympic medalist competing in his fourth Olympic Games, after winning a 4×200 freestyle relay gold. Jake Kaminski, who currently resides in the Gainesville area, won a silver medal in Team Archery.
Miami’s Angelica Delgado, who was the top Senior Female in the 2006 Sunshine State Games, did not advance into the medal round of Judo competition. Perry Baker, who played for Daytona Beach Rugby in the 2010 SSG, was a member of the U.S. Rugby team that finished ninth.
