Marvin E. Green, Jr. Joins the FSF as Director of Amateur Sports and Events
The Florida Sports Foundation (FSF), a Division of Enterprise Florida, Inc., is pleased to announce, Marvin E. Green, Jr., will join the staff as the Director of Amateur Sports and Events, on Monday, February 26. In this position, Green will plan and direct all aspects of Sunshine State Games and Florida Senior Games, the Foundation’s two signature amateur athletic sports programs.
Additionally, Green will serve as the liaison with National Governing Bodies, their state associations, the National Congress of State Games and National Senior Games Association to foster amateur sports promotion and development in the State of Florida.
“Recreational sports has played a significant role in shaping my career, thus far, ” said Green. “I am excited to join the FSF team and bring my experience to ensure the state’s amateur athletic events continue to be of the highest quality and a great experience for the participants and spectators, alike.”
Green comes to the FSF after a 22-year career at Florida A&M University. Most recently, he served as Associate Athletic Director for Sports Administration, where he oversaw the strength and conditioning and athletic training program for student athletes. He was responsible for internal operations of the Department and functioned as the Sports Administrator for four sports teams, including Men’s Tennis and Golf, Women’s Bowling and Volleyball. Green also functioned as the special events coordinator, specifically organizing and planning festivities in conjunction with major milestones for the University.
He began his career in Campus Recreation, rising to the position of Associate Director of Programs and Special Events. In this position, Green was responsible for intramural sports leagues, club sports, group exercise, fitness and personal training services, instructional programs, and special events, while managing a $1.2 million budget.
In 2016, Green was inducted into the FAMU Athletic Department’s Sports Hall of Fame for his accomplishments as the Rattlers Head Men’s Golf Coach, a position he has held for more than 15 years. He earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from FAMU, in Business Administration and Sports and Leisure Management, respectively. He also is a graduate of the NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males, is a Certified Recreational Sports Specialist (NIRSA), and was recently accepted to the Sports Management Institute—a leadership development program for sports administrators,
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Green is married and father to three children.
