Competitors Take Aim for Seven Weekends of SSG Sport Shooting September through November
TALLAHASSEE – Sunshine State Games Sport Shooting events will be taking aim for seven consecutive weekends beginning in late-September and continuing into early-November throughout the state of Florida.
Six Sunshine State locations will host 11 different pistol, rifle, and shotgun events with the first, the Bullseye Pistol competition, being contested on Sunday, September 23 at the Hernando Sportsman’s Club, in Brooksville.
Other locations hosting events include the Volusia Hunt and Gun Club in New Smyrna Beach; the Hollywood Rifle and Pistol Club in Dania Beach; Boca Raton High School; Skyway Trap and Skeet in St. Petersburg; and the Seminole County Gun and Archery Club in Geneva.
Sport shooting athletes can register online or print out registration and waiver forms at www.flasports.com/ssg-sport-shooting to compete in the 2018 competitions. Entry fees begin at $20 and vary by event. Several of the events have a limit to the number of shooters allowed. Please make note of those limitations when registering. Registration deadlines vary by competition.
While Sunshine State Games Sport Shooting Events follow rule structure provided by USA Shooting, the National Rifle Association, and United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA), the Cowboy Rifle Silhouette event offers shooters something different.
Competitors in the October 13 Cowboy Rifle Silhouette event, contested at the Seminole County Gun and Archery Club in Geneva, will shoot at targets in the form of chickens, pigs, turkeys, and rams.
Sport Shooting is one of the original sports of the Sunshine State Games, dating back to the Games inception in 1980. The Games offer competitive shooting opportunities to athletes of all ages.
