TALLAHASSEE — Registration is now open for the 2018 Florida Senior Games, presented by Humana, being held December 1-9 in Clearwater and Pinellas County.
Senior athletes, age 50 and over, can find registration and competition information for the 24 sports of the 27th Annual Florida Senior Games at www.floridaseniorgames.com. Entry fees vary by sport as the online registration deadline is set for November 18. Individual event information can be accessed in the 2018 Registration Booklet or can be requested by sending an email to games@flasports.com.
A qualifying performance at the Florida Senior Games Series qualifier is necessary for state of Florida athletes wishing to compete in Basketball Shooting, Bowling, Cycling, Golf, Horseshoes, Pickleball, Shuffleboard, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, and Track & Field.
Multiple Florida Senior Games Series Qualifiers have already taken place this past spring. This past week, the Pensacola Senior Games kicked off the fall calendar’s slate of 10 qualifier events, setting the road to Clearwater’s championships in December.
Open sports of the Florida Senior Games not requiring a qualifying performance include Archery, Badminton, Bag Toss, Basketball (3 on 3), Billiards, Team Bowling, Dominoes, Lawn Bowls, Powerlifting, Power Walk, Race Walk, Racquetball, Road Race, Tai Chi, and Volleyball.
Dominoes will be held in the Florida Senior Games for the first time in 2018. Dominoes has been played as a Sunshine State Games event since 2014. For its first time in the Florida Senior Games, the St. Lucie Cricket & Sports Association in South Port St. Lucie will act as the host on Saturday, December 1.
“The annual Florida Senior Games continues to provide athletes age 50 and over the opportunity to challenge themselves in a sport or event of their choice and lead an active lifestyle,” said Marvin E. Green, Jr., Vice President of Amateur Sports and Events. “The Games also give athletes the chance to renew old friendships they’ve made over the years during competitions and share the camaraderie sports provide.”
The 2018 Florida Senior Games will be in Clearwater and Pinellas County for the fourth consecutive year and serve as a qualifier for the 2019 National Senior Games, to be held June 14-25 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The 2017 Florida Senior Games attracted over 2,500 athletes during the nine days of competition. Since the Games inception in 1992, nearly 50,000 senior athletes have competed in the Florida Senior Games.
