2019 Florida Spring Training Attendance Tops 1.4 million
TALLAHASSEE – For the fourth consecutive year, the largest St. Patrick’s Day Party in the State of Florida has been held at a Philadelphia Phillies Spring Training Baseball Game at Spectrum Field in Clearwater.
On Sunday, March 17, 11,340 baseball fans were in attendance when the Phillies hosted the New York Yankees. The Phillies also had the largest single-game attendance figure of the Florida Grapefruit League on St. Patrick’s Day during the 2016-18 seasons as well.
For the nine games played on St. Patrick’s Day, a total of 66,485 fans attended a Florida Spring Training Game, the highest single-day total of the 33-day season.
The 33 days of the Florida Spring Training Season began on Friday, February 22 and concluded on Thursday, March 26. During that time, a total of 229 games were played that drew 1,445,362 for an average of 6,312 fans per game. Seven games were cancelled due to weather.
Since 2000, a total of 31,097,343 fans have attended Spring Training games in Florida. A 2018 Economic Impact Survey of Spring Training Baseball in Florida showed a $687.1 million annual benefit to the State of Florida.
The 2019 Florida Spring Training attendance figure accounts for all games between Major League teams, played in the State of Florida. Attendances are compiled daily by the Florida Sports Foundation, the State of Florida’s lead sports promotion and development organization and a Division of Enterprise Florida, Inc., and verified by each team.
